Repositioning a Nairobi-based fresh food exporter for international markets
AdoFresh Kenya is a fresh produce export company sourcing premium fruits and vegetables from certified Kenyan farms and supplying markets across Europe and the Middle East. When they came to us, they had a solid product and strong farming partnerships — but their brand was invisible in the competitive B2B export market. European buyers couldn't differentiate them from dozens of other Kenyan exporters pitching the same produce.
Buyers make decisions based on trust and reliability more than price. AdoFresh needed to build credibility with importers who had never visited Kenya and were evaluating vendors entirely through their digital presence. Their existing branding conveyed none of the quality, traceability, or partnership ethos that their business actually delivered.
We began with a thorough competitive audit, studying how other African fresh produce exporters positioned themselves globally and identifying the white space where AdoFresh could own a differentiated position. We found most competitors competed on generic "freshness" claims. AdoFresh's real strength was their farmer partnership model and farm-to-aircraft traceability. Hego Ventures is an early-stage investment firm focused on scaling African tech and consumer businesses with patient capital and operational support. The VC branding challenge is unique: you need to attract two very different audiences simultaneously. Founders need to feel seen and partnered with. Africaptions offers professional captioning, subtitling, and accessibility services for African media companies, content creators, broadcasters, and e-learning platforms. They launched with strong technology and an underserved market — but zero content presence and an audience that didn't yet know they existed.
